Hi Elle, I like your article, and it is very well researched. My understanding is that the low waist to hip ratio has nothing to do with body size. You can be skinny and have it, and you can be heavy and have it. The wiry, small-breasted paleolithic woman that you mentioned could still have a low waist to hip body type as could a more zaftig female. From what I have read, large hips in proportion to the waist indicates higher levels of estrogen and this means greater fertility.

I agree that much of what we believe about evolutionary psychology is cultural projection and often seen through the lens of patriarchy. Sex at Dawn was a very good book that offered an alternative perspective of sexual evolution.
